\n\t\t<\/div>\nSince my last article the Valley area received a little less than a foot of snow accompanied by high winds brought to us by winter storm Nemo. Most of Nemo\u2019s snow was dumped on coastal Northeast, but Round Top Mountain did get a nice covering of the white stuff. Then a few days later came rain and warmer temperatures resulting in most of the snow melting except small amounts clinging to fields, hidden under trees or in the higher elevations on the northwest ridge of Round Top. Along with the rain came high winds, then the thermometer suddenly dipped into the teen\u2019s and everything froze. Needless to say, this type of weather makes riding problematic. I enjoy riding in snow but not so much freezing rain and 20 mile an hour winds. Thus I turned to writing poetry. The following is a poem inspired by my observations while riding on Round Top Mountain. Hope you enjoy the poem. <\/p>\nClose Encounters
\nBy Pat Miran<\/p>\n\u2018Twas early morning in pale pink light
\nWhen a hunter began his weekly hike,
\nWith a long rifle heavy and cold
\nTo a mountain draped in soft white snow,<\/p>\nHe paused near a fox\u2019s burrow,
\nHis orange vest mirrored the dawn,
\nThe loyal black lab lagged behind
\nTracking vermin in velvety white snow,<\/p>\nAt the hilltop near an old home site
\nThe man inspected the rifle\u2019s gun-sight,
\nBlackjack lifted his muzzle toward the sun
\nAs the man cradled the long cold gun,<\/p>\nRapidly from deep in the pasture,
\nCame the rumble of flying hooves;
\nAs horses charged towards the fence,
\nDashing swiftly o\u2019er fresh white snow, <\/p>\nThe dog howled a strong protest
\nAnd the horses stopped dead cold,
\nAll retreated except one,
\nStanding defiant in pitiful white snow,<\/p>\nThe horse snorted and stomped
\nWhile the dog barked a ravenous response,
\nThe man scoped the animal within his sights
\nFor a standoff in deadly white snow,<\/p>\nThe huge black horse, a real hellfire,
\nAdvanced dangerously towards the barbwire,
\nThe creature snored, nostrils flared
\nAs the horse issued a boldfaced dare, <\/p>\nThe man and the dog stood their ground,
\nThe horse looked warily at the hound,
\nThen spun in midair and galloped off,
\nDancing and prancing o\u2019er joyous white snow,<\/p>\nThe hunter firmly held onto his dog
\nAs the animal whimpered and whined,
\nSlowly they turned towards an old cornrow,
